Best Law Colleges in India

Which are the Best Law Colleges in India? Well there are many  many run the government and also private law colleges .  To point out a few  top law colleges in India are NLSIU or also NLS  Bangalore,  NLUD also called National Law University  Delhi, Nalsar , National Juridical Sciences , Kolkata,  Symbiosis Law School, GNLU Gandhinagar, etc.

Which Law college should one opt for in India?

One can opt for any law college which is recognized and provides valid law degree from a recognized University. For example if you pass out from ILS Law College which is under the Pune University , a well known law college in Pune , what will eventually matter is whether while in college you have worked as intern  with a good Senior Advocate because thats where you will learn  so it will not  matter much whether you pass out from the Number 1 law college or Number 10 . There is no formula for measuring which is 1 and 2 and so on . However it all depends on whether you want to choose litigation practice or which to opt for corporate law.

Litigation Practice

What is important is if you choose to be a litigator which is the final aim of most law students it will not  matter much about the law college ranking . What will matter is the Senior you have worked with and his approach  because finally your approach will also be similar while you  start your independent practice. But finally you will see as time passes by with practice  you have developed your own style because every person thinks in his own unique style. Dont always be influenced by how others would  approach in a  particular situation .  If you  have worked with a good Senior lawyer this will help you in the long run but after say  2 to 3 years of practice you will have your approach and this happens automatically . How to draft a Plaint?

Initially focus on how to draft a plaint in a civil suit.  Its very simple start with a Petition in a divorce case . Follow how a petition is drafted in a divorce case . Usually divorce cases are easy to understand but that will give you an idea initially. Once you see a few matrimonial cases drafting it will not be difficult to draft a plaint in a civil suit  or even filing a criminal complaint. I’am saying this because its always better to opt for something simple and easy as a student and if you get an idea how things work you will see rest are all similar only the Acts are different.  Even drafting will also be easy for you as finally all of them are alike. Start simple and you can do any complex matter in future . But if your beginning is difficult to grasp then you may loose interest in it.

How to draft a written statement?

Even in case of drafting a written statement take a divorce case or any matrimonial case, you will get an idea how a written statement is drafted . For example let me show you as an example , we usually start by denying all allegations in a written statement  like one given below in a divorce case-

  1. The Respondents are filing the present written statement  to the  Divorce Petition  filed by the Petitioner before this Hon’ble Court. The answering Respondent  crave leave of this Hon’ble Court to file a more detailed written statement  at a later stage if necessary.
  2. At the outset, the answering Respondent  denies each and every allegation, submission and contention made by the Petitioner in the Divorce  Petition except the submissions and contentions which are dealt with herein below and specifically traversed

After this  you may give your Preliminary submissions , Para-wise reply to the grounds in the Petition and finally end with the following –

In view of what is stated above the answering Respondent submits that the Petitioner is not entitled to any interim relief and the Special Leave Petition deserves to be dismissed with costs.
